Pequawket Kids Association (PKA), a 21 st Century Community Learning Center, believes that student learning doesn't stop at the end-of-the-day school bell. For that reason, PKA offers afterschool, school vacation and summer programs.

In PKA, academic support and enrichment opportunities compliment children's classroom learning, while recreational programs contribute toward children's physical development.

For children who are not accomplishing as much as they need to during regular school hours, PKA provides tutorial assistance to increase academic achievement. home 2

Children enjoy the fun activities that encourage their creativity and help in developing their positive self-esteem. Parents appreciate the safe, supportive environment, the dependable scheduling and the sliding scale fees. The local community, recognizing that today's children are tomorrow's citizens, supports PKA for its dedication to children's success, growth and development.

PKA partners with MSAD #72 and provides programming for children from kindergarten through grade 5 in the district's three elementary schools.

"I am happy to have this opportunity to speak in support of PKA.  I am a fan of PKA because it fosters the well being of the whole child, focusing on mind, body and spirit.

Through healthy snacks, nutrition education and numerous opportunities for physical activity, PKA fosters active lifestyles.

Through mentoring, team building and cooperative learning experiences PKA develops a spirit of community and belonging.  The encouragement of the PKA staff, the obvious pride and affection they have for the children, builds increased self-esteem.  In this environment students feel safe to take risks and try new things.

Through tutoring and homework support PKA increases academic achievement and develops critical work habits.

Most importantly, PKA provides opportunities to children who might be otherwise marginalized due to unfortunate circumstances.  PKA sessions in woodworking, gardening, snowshoeing, geo-caching, engineering – the list goes on- give students the chance to explore a wonderful variety of experiences.

I believe PKA, as an extension of the school day, is having a positive impact on students, helping them become more creative, more healthy and more successful."

"I am here as a parent who has a unique perspective on the P.K.A. program.  I come to you as a parent, teacher, and former after school program director.  My family and I relocated here from Westerly, Rhode Island last June.   My son attends P.K.A every afternoon and my daughter volunteers there 3 afternoons a week.

My son has grown tremendously, especially socially, since attending this amazing program.  He is learning so much in each of the enrichment programs and is thriving in the homework program.

My daughter, who is planning to attend college for teaching is getting a rare opportunity to work with children in this exceptional program.  The professionalism of the teachers and the structure of P.K.A. is something to not only be admired but in my opinion should be modeled after in every school district nationwide.  I am grateful everyday for this incredible program and what it means to my family."
